Not every photo shoot hits like this one.
Today, I’m taking you behind the scenes of my feature for TCU Magazine—shot by a photographer whose credits include The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. (*Shout out to Desiree the photog!*)
BTW my stylist’s name is Brittani Batts. AI captions AI’ed a little too hard with her name.
But this wasn’t about lights, cameras, or glam.
This was about going home and the unsung history of a place that displaced a plantation. (If that right there won't make you shout...!!!)
I stepped into the sanctuary where I was baptized…
Where my father stood beside the pastor…
Where I learned to lead long before the titles came.
From downtown Dallas to Good Street Baptist Church, this shoot wasn’t just a shoot—it was a return to my roots. The kind of moment that humbles you even as it elevates you. I had all the feels.
And it’s all part of the journey to the release of my next book, Call & Response: 10 Leadership Lessons from the Black Church.
🎥 Watch Part 1 of this 3-part series.
Legacy. Purpose. Leadership. Full circle.
I also received my offer to narrate the unabridged version of the book. I go into the studio in October. Looks like the hardcover, ebook and audiobook will drop simultaneously. 🔥
