I am an author...first.

Why calling me a podcaster is missing the entire point

Google got it right on my authority panel simply from my carefully curated Internet footprint.

That took time. It took years, actually.

A reporter made the grave mistake recently of calling me a podcaster in her lede. 🤨

I kindly asked her to take the entire feature article down. It wasn’t the only reason, but it was definitely a trigger.

No shade to proud podcasters out there, but if you say that about me, you’ve missed the entire boat and yes, I have two of them—podcasts, not boats.

I’m not a creator or an influencer either since we’re in the ballpark.

In fact, I’m not the corporate executive that decided to write a book because it seemed the thing to do when you are at the end of your career.

Let me explain.

The rigor, research and the evidence-based everything elevate…everything. My corporate pedigree, degrees and credentials prepared and earned me this moment.

Think of it like this—I am a writer first.

My writing has a symbiotic relationship with my executive coaching training and practice, however together, they dictate my focus—the leadership at the apex of science and culture.

That fuels the C-suite advising and strategy.

The professional speaking and facilitating amplifies the writing and thought leadership. All are major revenue streams that get me to my next book project.

It’s my circle of life.

Everything else is part of the marketing machine—the trailer to the movie.

So don’t call me a “multi-hyphenate.” Again, if you like that, good for you.

I cringe when someone says, “You do all ‘the things.’” Because I don’t.

I write… seriously...since I was 18.

Columnist. Journalist. Ghostwriter. Essayist. Feature writer. Contributor. Author.

That’s who I am at the core. That’s why acknowledgement from industry authorities like Publisher’s Weekly make me finally feel seen and affirmed.

I conquered strategic comms, so that’s in the rearview mirror and not part of my current narrative.

Yes, I’m a founder. Indeed, CEO is on the papers with the Secretary of State.

However…

It’s no longer up for discussion.

That is why I sat in my truck and screamed my head off for joy on Friday.

I know that’s not a very C-suite thing to say, but whatever.

It doesn’t matter.

I am an author.

Four books and a Big 5 deal later, now industry recognition… that should settle it once and for all.
